Abstract
The application of a particular PBL method to both medical education
and high school education, that has evolved through R&D over the last
twenty years will be described. The structure of the method, design of
problems and training of faculty to facilitate clinical reasoning
skills, as well as self-directed study skills and the acquisition of
an integrated, flexible knowledge base will be described. A taxonomy
of species within the genus PBL will be alluded to as well. Suggestions
for ways to more effectively achieve those objectives and to assess
the products of this method will be discussed with the audience.
