An incredibly sad day at our household. Shannon (my fiancee) has developed
allergies to Molly, our 16-week old puppy. Her allergies are such that for
the sake of her health, we must try to find Molly a new home.

Molly is a Bichipoo - a Bichon Frise/Toy Poodle mix. She's a light apricot
color (sort of the same color as unfinished pine wood), she's _very_ bright,
incredibly affectionate, and we have both fallen in love with her. She
is, in the words of someone we passed on the street, "so cute that she
makes you want to puke." Please check out her pictures (see below).
Unlike other puppies, who seem to be terrified of children, Molly LOVES
kids. She has been around several young children, and has always been
very playful, yet gentle, with them.

She was obtained at Lamb's Farm in Libertyville, IL, and did _not_ come from a
puppy mill or pet store. Lamb's Farm is a small farm/family recreation areai
that employs/benefits mentally handycapped adults. They have a pet shop that
serves as a "front-end" for a breeder in Missouri who hand-delivers all
puppies that he raises.

Molly is in excellent health - and is completely up to date on all of her
immunizations. She has been crate-trained since we've had her (since she was
8 weeks old) and is 90% housetrained. She is still in the process of learining
to "signal" when she needs to go out. Molly has not been spayed yet.
She is obedient to the commands "sit", "stay"(sort-of), "down", "shake", and
of course, "no". Not bad for 16 weeks, huh?

You can see pictures of Molly at http://www.uic.edu/~blackman/Molly.html
The pictures I've posted are of her at 10 weeks. She's currently 8 lbs,
and probably won't grow to be more than 12-15 lbs.

As you can probably tell, Shannon and I love Molly very much and are
extremely concerned with where her next (and hopefully permenant) home
will be. A face-to-face meeting/interview with prospective buyers will
be necessary for us as well as Molly. Molly is the type of dog that requires
a lot of attention and a lot of devotion - she has an extremely energetic
and engaging personality and deserves a caring, devoted and loving companion.

If you are interested in providing Molly with a new home, please contact
us by e-mail or by telephone at (312) 752-1082. Also, please note, we are
not _giving_ Molly away. Price (which includes all of her equipment, toys,
cost of shots, etc.) will be discussed at the end, not at the beginning.
We are looking for the right person, not the right price. Please be aware,
however, that the purchase price for Molly alone (from Lamb's Farm) was $400.
As a mixed-breed dog, Molly is not AKA certified, but we do have all
documentation (health, etc.) available.

Hope this doesn't sound too severe, but it is very hard for us to part with
Molly, and I'm sure that shows through in the writing of this message.

I saw the picture of Molly she is VERY cute , I can see why you are
upset about having to give her up. I do want you to understand that ALL
pet shops tell you thier dogs come from a private breeder. But breeders
would not deliberatly breed mixed breed dogs! I wish you success in
finding a great home for Molly.

That's a shame, and extremely unusual, since Bichons and Poodles are largely
non-allergenic to most sensitive people. Have you talked with a groomer, by
any chance? There are shampoos on the market that can help (sometimes just
regular grooming helps, since it cuts down the dander). That's the only way I
can keep my cat , to which I have major allergies - If I keep her washed, she
can even sleep with me.

If you must place the dog out to another home, I hope it goes well for you.
You certainly sound concerned about the pup, and I'm sure you'll pick a good
companion for her future.

Best of luck,

Dyane in Atlanta

Well, they should be delighted to take Molly back then. I would think
that such a place would have given you some sort of written assurance
that if the puppy didn't work out, they would take her back. After all,
if the breeder is Missouri takes her back, he'll know what happened to
the puppy that he hand-delivered only what, 9 weeks or so ago? If you
sell her on the Net, who knows where she went to? I would call the
breeder and tell him that you can't keep Molly, and that you would like
to return her. Since she came from a concerned breeder as you said, he
should take her back. Of course if he DOESN'T take her back, you may have
just learned a littl more about pet stores and puppy mills...

I know that my breeder (who is in this month's issue of the AKC Gazette,
the lady with the Goldens in the breeder articles, Sligo's mom is with
her), will take my puppy back no matter what. If my husband and I manage
to get killed together on our next trip to the supermarket, or if such a
thing happens 10 years from now, Sligo has a home with his breeder. I
don't have to worry about what will happen to him. Rather comforting.

her mouth in that picture)

It sounds like you love Molly a lot. I wish you the best of luck finding
a home for her.

I must comment on the "hand delivered from Missouri" part of your post.
I'm very sorry to tell you that your puppy is almost certainly from a
puppy mill. I live in Missouri. We are a puppy mill state. I know of no
reputable breeder who hand delivers (or delivers in any way!) dogs to a
middleman to sell in another state. It simply isn't done. Only
wholesalers, bunchers and brokers sell through middlemen. I *do* know of
a wholesaler who was arrested in Ohio while he was "hand delivering"
puppies to New York. There were more than 80 5 week old puppies jammed
into rabbit hutches in a van. If the van hadn't broken down, the puppies
would have made it to their destination. This means they would have
died in NY rather than in OH. They were riddled with illness, including
parvo, which many died of later. Also, reputable breeders do not cross
breed.

However, there is certainly nothing you can do about her origins now. It
sounds like she has a lovely temperament. Hopefully her long-term health
will also stay good.

Good luck finding the best of homes for her.

How about you try to educate instead of humiliate? This guy is remorseful and
clearly reads this group occasionally, as he took care to point out that he
thought he had bought from a reputable breeder (this was not the standard "I
just got this dog from Petland and he is purebred and he is really too big
for my studio apartment even though he is a mastiff and aren't mastiffs
supposed to be toy size dogs, 'cause that's what Petland told me when I
bought him?). You could have just said "I have to disagree that she
definitely didn't come from a puppy mill (or even from a backyard breeder)"
and then give your reasons. THEN, how about giving the guy some USEFUL advice
about placing a dog he clearly loves very much?

Put these posts in context for goodness sakes. There are three types of
people who post things like this:

	1.	Trolls ("I want to give away this cool puppy I got from this place where
there were hundreds of pups to choose from and I'm looking for a good
sausage factory to give him to...")
	2.	People who think the Internet is "Cool" ("I have this puppy that won't
quit peeing on my great aunt's carpet, so since there are all these dog
lovers on this newfangled internet thing, I'll just give him to one of them
so that I can get a puppy that respects carpet a little more" and/or "I have
been severely allergic to dogs since I was born but this puppy in the pet
store was so cute that I just had to have him, but my sneezes are upsetting
the people in the apartment next door and they might tell the landlord and
I am not supposed to have pets anyway, so how about one of you nice
people in cyberspace take him off my hands?")
	3.	People who made a mistake but did not realize they were
making it at the time, realize it, are remorseful about it, will not do it
again, and sincerely want to place a loved pet with people who will love it
and care for it.

This guy is a number 3. There is nothing to indicate that he is going to go
get another dog anytime in the near or not so near future. Come on you guys -
educate him with KIND words, not sarcastic ones, help him place his animal if
you have the ability to do so, and who knows - maybe, just maybe, he will
think before he recommends that his friend who is searching for a dog should
go to the same place he got Molly. Or, you can make him so mad with sarcasm
that he says "to heck with these people" and goes off on his own with
Molly, recommending her breeder to anyone who might tell him they are thinking
about getting a puppy.

Oftentimes, the sarcasm from people on this board drives away the very people
(the category 3's) who might actually be willing to learn from their own
mistakes and might help spread the word about responsible animal ownership....
