Do dancers on usenet need help *becoming* a geek, and does anyone care?

When the first post <3362B47A.12BE@internet.com> on 4/26 about creating a
webpage to "help dancers become a geek" was posted in ucla.dance, ba.dance,
phl.dance, alt.arts.ballet, rec.arts.dance, rec.folk-dancing, (a total of 6
newsgroups), I read it in 2 of them (r.a.d and ba.d), and thought "do dancers
need help becoming geeks? I don't think so!" but I didn't reply, as I thought
that it would not become a regular item, and although clearly not on topic for
dancing newsgrourp, it was only a single post, I simply let it slide on by,
didn't reply or email my thoughts...

But the second time I saw this theme <3367C1FA.373E@internet.com> on 5/1, it
appeared that it was looking like a trend, and clearly not on topic for these
newsgroups. So, I posted a polite reply (and I dare anyone to show me any
phrasing in that reply that was rude or flaming, I was brief, polite, and simply
made an observation and a suggestion), <336f1a4f.22749316@news.concentric.net>
suggesting that most dancers that read usenet are already geeks, and that the
lack of replies was indicative of the interest in this subject in the newsgroups
he was posting in. I posted as a reply and not in private email, in that if
there are dancers that somehow do find that his non-dance postings are
specifically useful for dancers to become geeks, they would be welcomed to post
replies with their show of support.

BTW, I posted my reply in ba.dance, a newsgroup specifically for dancing in the
SF Bay Area, so this was doubly off topic in that it wasn't about dance, and it
wasn't about dancing in the SF Bay Area. It wasn't until I was composing the
reply that I even saw that it was cross-posted to 6 newsgroups, and that made
the lack of followups even more pertenent to the issue of if this was of
interest or on topic for these newsgroups.

I *didn't* say to stop posting, I simply said that the lack of follow-up replies
should be noted, and considered as indicative of the interest to these
newsgroups on this topic.

And I got flamed!

Not only flamed, rudely flamed. People using a name that is NOT the one that I
use, and in one case, using it repeatedly. Bad. Very Bad. Violation of
netiquette, for those of you that care. (Obviously the flamers don't care.)

I know the real name of others that post here, and I have been VERY angry with
one of them, but I didn't post that real name, I allowed that person to stay
*undercover* here on r.a.d., in that I consider it extremely rude to publicise
another's name without their permission. (rfc 1855 discusses this in the IRC
section) Thus, I consider that the 2 individuals that are using the name I do
NOT use, are being extremely rude, and are showing a real lack of class to
perpetuate this.

FWIW, not that any of you care, I am going thru some real difficulties, both
professionally and personally right now. Being flamed for a polite post
suggesting that an off topic thread not be continutally re-posted was not
something I needed right now. Having an old name that I hate (duh?) be
repeatedly and rudely reposted was not something I needed right now.

If any of you do care, posts and emails of support are welcomed, and
appreciated.

ObDance: Thanks especially to my r.a.d. friends Ron, Carl, and Rahul, who have
made my recent dancing at Cubberly and the Grand Palace enjoyable as I try to
get out again and recover from my difficulties, you are wonderful dance partners
who generously compensate for my lack of recent practice, and are truly
appreciated!
