Message de Nadia Magnenat Thalmann,
presidente de Computer Animation '93
------------------------------------

chefs-d'oeuvres parfois encore maladroits.

Merci de votre participation a Computer Animation '93, merci de votre
contribution qui fait de cet evenement un reel succes.

Message from Nadia Magnenat Thalmann,
president of Computer Animation '93
-------------------------------------

You are invited to take part in Computer Animation, which will be hold,
for the sixth year in a row, in Geneva from June 16 to 19, 1993.

Computer Animation is the scientific forum for experts in image-producing
software, artisans of those surprising images where in we can watch
the evolution of humanoids-in-the-making, somewhat hesitant in being
confronted with the newly conferred autonomy with which their
flesh-and-bones creators, using increasingly sophisticated algorithms,
have endowed them.

Computer Animation is the occasion for researchers from various countries
to compare their results, generate new ideas and to come away with
their brains chock-full of projects and challenges.

Computer Animation is also the opportunity for the public to visit
the Computer Film Festival, to travel in the mathematical imagination,
to be informed, fascinated and even troubled by these masterpieces,
sometimes still a bit awkward.

Thanks jor joining us at Computer Animation '93 and for your contribution
so essential to its success.

Wednesday June, 16
One Day Tutorial on Computer Animation
--------------------------------------

Contents of the course:

1. Computer Animation Principles
This course will first present theoretical and practical aspects
   of computer animation :
	- image key-frame animation
	- parametric key-frame animation
	- algorithmic animation

2. Human Animation Concepts
Emphasis will be placed on 3D computer animation of articulated bodies.
In particular, we will discuss several important problems to be solved
to incorporate realistic human characters in computer-generated films.

3. Clothes and Hair
Clothes and hair in computer-generated films are often simulated as
a part of the body with no autonomous motion. In this course, we will
present methods for designing and animating clothes and hair.

4. Walking
Finally, we will discuss an individualized walking model and present
an innovative way of animating actors at a high level based on
the concept of synthetic vision. To simulate this behavior,
each synthetic actor uses a synthetic vision as its perception of
the world and so as the unique input to its behavioral model.

This course will be presented by :
 - Nadia Magnenat thalmann, MIRALab, University of Geneva
 - Prem Kalra, MIRALab, University of Geneva
 - Hans Martin Werner, MIRALab, University of Geneva
 - Daniel Thalmann, Computer Graphics Lab, EPFL
 - Hans Ruedi Noser, Computer Graphics Lab, EPFL
