You know, 5 years ago I'd have dismissed this piece of idiocy as an obviously lame attempt at a spoof. As recently as a couple of years ago, I'd have blamed it on AOL's encroachment on the Net and the subsequent decline in expectations regarding the intellectual content of postings to Usenet newsgroups. But it dawns on me now that I was sorely mistaken the whole time. What has happened is that we've granted Internet access to an entire subclass of people who can't even touch their thumb to their little finger. To make matters worse, we're also allowing them to register to vote, get a license to drive a car, and (worst of all) licensing them to marry and perpetuate their stupidity. That's not good. : Okay, in my letter I'm not asking the FCC to "arbitrarily" decide. I'm : telling them what I think is (and isn't) reasonable. Someone else : (perhaps someone you and/or I voted for) gave them the right to make the : determination of whether or not I have a legitamate complaint. And yes, I : will complain when I think I'm getting screwed in the deal: Put the crayon down, and back *slowly* away from the table. You're not complaining, you're whining. There's a big difference. If you don't like what you see on TV, don't watch it. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the FCC isn't your mommy, and they're not going to make anybody stop picking on you. If you stop watching commercials, on the other hand, sponsors are going to notice. : Were but it so simple as that; they won't get shut down. They may have a : letter attached to their renewal requiring that they try for renewal in 6 : months, to see if those of us with our heads out of our butts are still : p.o.'ed. That means y'all have six months to practice removal procedures. Best of luck. : WNGM can drag this out for years. Especially with the support : of cable nazis such as some of the good readers of this group. This part has me stumped. Basically, you've suggested that the government ought to decide what's best for all of us (provided, of course, that they agree with you). You're describing anybody who disagrees with you as a "cable nazi". I guess this makes you a "cable Bolshevik", which is the one part of this post that makes me feel good. The Cold War is over. Y'all lost. --steve Predestination was doomed from the start. Steven Kirby University of Georgia kirby@cosmic.uga.edu
