For the past year I've hosted a heavy metal listening group that
meets once per month. We get together on a Friday evening, everyone
brings their favorite recent acquisitions and their favorite imbibement,
and we kick back, relax, and listen to heavy metal. It's worked
out *really well*.
As my primary listening tastes lean a tad "lighter" than the
doom, death, black, and thrash metal we primarily listen to at
those meetings, I'd like to set up a second listening group to
also meet once a month.
So, if your listening tastes include those wonderful sounds of:
AC/DC, Aerosmith, Alcatrazz, April Wine, Asia, Autograph, Axe,
Bad Company, Bad English, Bang Tango, Black 'n Blue, Bon Jovi,
Bonham, Bulletboys, Cinderella, Damn Yankees, Danger Danger,
Dare, Dennis DeYoung, Def Leppard, Dio, Dirty Looks, Dokken,
Doro, Dream Theater, Enuff Z'Nuff, Europe, Extreme, Fastway,
Firehouse, Lita Ford, Foreigner, Frehley's Comet, GTR, Giant,
Giuffria, Glass Tiger, Great White, Guns 'N Roses, Heart,
Heaven's Edge, Helix, Honeymoon Suite, House of Lords, Hurricane,
Icehouse, Icon, Journey, KISS, Kansas, Keel, Killer Dwarfs,
Kingdom Come, Kix, Krokus, L.A. Guns, Legs Diamond, Lillian Axe,
Little River Band, Loudness, Loverboy, M.S.G., Magnum, Yngwie
Malmsteen, Manowar, Meat Loaf, Kim Mitchell, Molly Hatchet,
Moody Blues, Gary Moore, Motley Crue, Mr. Big, Mr. Mister,
Nelson, New England, Night Ranger, Aldo Nova, Ted Nugent,
Ozzy Osbourne, Petra, Poison, Pretty Maids, Pseudo Echo,
Queen, Queensryche, Quiet Riot, R.E.O. Speedwagon, RTZ, Rainbow,
Ratt, Riot, Saigon Kick, Savatage, Saxon, Scorpions, Tommy Shaw,
Shooting Star, Shy, Skid Row, Slade, Slaughter, Sleeze Beez,
Rick Springfield, Billy Squier, Starship, Steelheart, Stryper,
Styx, Supertramp, Survivor, T.N.T., Thunder, Tora Tora, Toto,
Triumph, Twisted Sister, Tyketto, U.F.O., Vendenberg, Van Halen,
Victory, Vinnie Vincent Invasion, Vixen, W.A.S.P., Warlock,
Warrant, White Heart, White Lion, Whitecross, Whitesnake,
Winger, Y&T, and Zebra,
then you most likely would enjoy being a part!
To those who would say "Yeah, but those old fogies are washed
up! There's nothing NEW going on in melodic hard rock! Everything
is this '90s alternative crap!" I would say "Au contraire."
1980s-style hard rock and melodic metal is alive and well and
has been for most of the 1990s....just not here in the U.S.
Fans in Europe and Japan aren't as "trendy" as the vast unwashed
masses here in the states. If you become part of the listening
group you will be exposed to the likes of:
Alien, Arcara, Artension, Artica, Aska, Axxis, Bonfire,
Brazen Abbot, C.I.T.A., Cannata, Casanova, China, D.C. Cooper,
Craaft, Crown of Thorns, Emerald Rain, Empire, Eyes, F.M.,
Fair Warning, Mark Free, Frontline, Frozen Tears, Gotthard,
Hammerfall, Hard Rain, Harem Scarem, Harlan Cage, Gary Hughes,
Hugo, Human Clay, Impellitteri, Intruder, Jaded Heart, Lionsheart,
Millenium, Million, Nation, Nouveaux, Only Child, Open Skyz,
Axel Rudi Pell, Pink Cream 69, Radakka, Return, Rhapsody,
Royal Hunt, Paul Sabu, Satrox, Savannah, Shadow Gallery,
Sic Vikki, Sinner, Skagarack, Jeff Scott Soto, The Storm,
Stranger, Stun Leer, Takara, Talisman, Ken Tamplin, Joey Tempest,
Ten, Terra Nova, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Treat, Unruly Child,
Velocity, Widowmaker, and Xenon.
Not to mention a host of minor-label one-shot wonders both
old and new.
So, if 1980s-style AOR, hard rock, and melodic metal "trip
your trigger", if you like screaming guitars, lots of keyboards,
and layered vocal harmonies, this music is for you.
Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, and Nirvana need not apply.
Drop me an email if you're interested. I'll be setting up a
mailing list for the group, once I have a list of people.
8-14 is a nice manageable number of people...
Thanks for reading,
-Dan
