I want to report a consumer story with a happy ending. A few months ago, I bought a Stack 'N Sort recycling center made by FREM Corporation of Worcester, MA. This is basically three stackable plastic bins that can be labeled and used to store various kinds of recyclable materials (or whatever else you want). It is a very good product, and I have been very happy with it. In fact, I have been so happy with it that I wanted to get another one (they're stackable so I can stack the new one on top of the old one). In Champaign, I've only seen this product at Target so I went back to Target and got another one. Great, right? No. The new one I bought was broken. The lids are made to snap shut, but these lids wouldn't stay closed. No problem, I brought it back to Target to exchange it for another one. Great, right? No. All the ones at Target also were broken. In fact, I went back to Target every couple of weeks for a few months to check, and they always had broken ones. I told the people at Target about the problem, but I don't think they did anything about it. (That evaluation is based on the fact that every time I went back they still had broken ones.) Finally, I wrote a letter to FREM Corporation. I told them how much I liked their product, but I couldn't find any that weren't broken. Two days ago, I received a new complementary Stack 'N Sort via UPS with a letter from FREM apologizing for my inconvenience. Great, right? YES! The new Stack 'N Sort works perfectly, and I am very happy. -- David M.
