Hi all... As with many tragedies, there are people making ribbons in order to pay their respects to the victims at columbine. Because a lot of fans of industrial and electronic music happen to wear some black clothing - and maybe even black trenchcoats - I feel this is an appropriate place to post this: Today, I had a job interview - it was chilly out to just wear my dress shirt, and pants, so I needed a coat. The only thing I could wear, of course - was my black trenchcoat. I got some particularly ominous stares and looks today, as if I were disrespecting the world for keeping warm. As a response to this problem, and as a way to clarify to others that the trenchcoats, the black clothing, etc - are not at all associated with hate or discrimination - I would like to humbly request the following: I am going to go and pick up Blue and Silver ribbon, and a bunch of safety pins, in order to make ribbons to show that we are paying respect to the > victims at columbine. Whether you wear khaki's and a flannel every day, or wear lots of black - I will give you one if you just stop by my place. I'd like to see lots of people wearing them, putting them on their bookbags, etc. Whatever it takes to clarify that not only are those of us who wear dark clothing, or trenchcoats not associated with violence - but we are appaled by it. The fact of the matter is, the black trenchcoat ranges from computer geeks to techno kids to goths to just average people who think trenchcoats are nice to have. What happened is a tragedy, and the fact that it's pigeonholing lots of people into being viewed as intimidating is a tragedy as well. Please help support the continued acceptance of diversity in this country - stop by and get a ribbon. Please email me if you'd like a ribbon, I'll give you directions, etc... Also, if anyone else would like to help out by making ribbons, let me know. Your humbled CIA president, Steve
