Because the machine I'm using doesn't have an AGP slot. The V3 1000 is a
V3 2000 with 8MB of SGRAM (instead of 16MB of SDRAM) and one texture unit
turned off, in software, when using the Glide and OpenGL drivers. A
registry key can be used to turn the texture unit back on, which makes the
card just as fast as a V3 2000 and in some cases even slightly faster. It
can't go to as high res., but who's machine can really get decent framerates
above 1024x768? For 38 inc. (Micro Mart) they are a snip.
