Not Linux, just whatever distro they happen to bundle will be garbage, either by poor decisions up front, or the fact that it will be outdated nearly as fast as driver disks. >It doesn't matter if the LiveCD's drivers are outdated as long as they >work well enough to download what you need for Windows. It doesn't really hurt anything to run outdated Windows drivers either, as long as they work out of the box well enough to get you online long enough to download updated drivers. >IME network >driver installations for Windows tend to go fairly smoothly these days, >so I won't claim using Linux is easier and more reliable, but it does >have one advantage: you can download everything you need at once, >instead of having to wait for the network drivers before you can go and >get everything else. That really depends on your hardware and software combination. I honestly can't remember the last time I had problems getting online on a desktop system with anything other then a Windows CD/DVD. I have one motherboard that dates back a few years which doesn't have a driver included in XP SP1, but it's included in XP SP2 and Vista. I also had an older laptop that actually needed drivers for the wired ethernet, but oddly the wireless card worked without drivers beyond what Windows has built-in, so it was a fairly moot point to reinstall. One of my current systems will only work in 100Mb mode until you install the drivers, but again, more then sufficient.
