I've just seen/installed a Sharp JX-9200 (300dpi, 4 ppm) GDI printer
running with the Windows Printing System on a 8 Mb P75 Aptiva 2144/121
Multimedia system running Win 95.

Despite comments in Computer Shopper, about wanting to throw the
printer out of the window if waiting for a print-out on a 8 Mb system,
it seemed pretty fast - printing the first page in 10-15 sec (as fast
if not faster than my Canon BJC-4000 inkjet).
(We're just printing text not graphics test patterns.)

Sharp advertise it as being up to 2.5 times faster than GDI and PCL
printers (which then beggars the question - what do they call their's?
or is the WPS a different class of it's own).

The only problems we've had so far:-
1. The printer driver/system can't auto select Potrait/Landscape
printing (are all lasers like this ?) unlike my Canon inkjet.
If you wish to print in landscape you have to go into
printer/properties and select the appropriate layout.

2. We can't install multiple copies of the printer in the Printer
Folder and then set one to landscape (or whatever) to make for fast
selection of different settings. I know other lasers can do this as
it's been published as a tip and I use the same trick to switch
between mono and colour print modes.

I can't say we are printing *Lots* of standard letters and I disabled
print spooling rather than take a chance on filling up the hard disk
with print spool files and crashing windows.
