Looking for decent cheap RAM

Hi

I have an Athlon 700 system I bought last year running Windows 98 and
I'm looking to upgrade the memory as it's a bit slow and is likely to
be even slower when I upgrade to XP. Currently it has 128Mb and I was
looking to add another 256Mb or 512Mb. My machine takes SDRAM DIMM
PC100 and I'm told by the manufacturer that PC133 will also work, it
should just drop down to the lower speed.

That being the case, can anyone point me to some good online deals for
256 or 512 upgrades and info of brands which are particularly good or
worth avoiding?

Details of any shops in the Edinburgh area with good deals would also
be useful.

thanks

Craig

http://www.crucial.com/uk

I've been using this company for quite some time, and have found them very
reliable, and remarkably inexpensive e.g. 256MB PC133 SDRAM - 22.49 -
28.79 dependant on spec.

Also try http://www.pcindex.co.uk which is a index of the best prices for
components available through the internet in Britain.

Silicon Group, Dalry Road - cheap, but caveat emptor (no anti stat
precautions or at least, none that I have ever seen - I went to buy a
processor, the assistant just picked it up in his fingers and asked if I
wanted it in a bag - my response was that I didn't want it)
Ideal, Bruntsfield Place - not as cheap, but tend to take care with storage
and dispensing (always use anti-stat bracelets/mats, stored in grounded
metal cabinets...)

Currently GBP22.49 plus VAT (free next day delivery). I always use Crucial
for RAM upgrades and they have nevr let me down.

Cheers,

Stuart
