Synopsis: I'm trying to set up to use ISDN with multiple ISPs. Problem: Dialing to either ISP works well the first time. But Demon, on ippp0, can't be dialled a second time. 08004u, on ippp1, works nicely. Diagnosis: /var/log/syslog tells me PAP authentication fails when I redial demon. When Demon was the only ISP I used, I had it add the gateway and the default route at boot time. I removed that because with two ISPs it needs to assign different defaultroutes as connections are made/broken. The following doesn't work: ifconfig ippp0 down isdnctrl delif ippp0 [ do same with ippp1 if it's up ] isdnctrl system off [restart] Unsatisfactory solution: After isdnctrl system off, I need to (manually) kill the ipppd before it will work again. Desired solution: isdnctrl [dial|hangup] ippp[0|1] should be all that's needed. At worst, one or two additional commands that can go in a script and don't cause a delay. Question: What am I missing? Why does Demon work once, and 08004u continue to work? How can I fix it? I'm using PAP for both. -- Nick Kew
