Ah! FANS!

Here dirt & fluff is a perpetual problem with all our PC's.
MTBF for fans is about 1 year, left on all the time.
Machines get airlined out (incl PSU) about twice yearly (100PSI).

I have fitted filters but the problem is convenience because they felt
up quite fast and ought to be on the bottom front of the case (towers
anyway) where they can be seen and cleaned in a trice.

Ideally there should be a filter on the front. The PSU fan should be
reversed and an additional fan (there is usually a rear cutout in a big
tower for this) blowing out of the case should be added. This keeps the
noise at the back and the filter at the front for convenient checking
and cleaning. I have a 7" filter, c/w housing and grill here to do
precisely that, but I couldn't bear to cut the case when it was new and
soon (honestly) I'll upgrade to ATX so it's no longer worth doing.

When I did have a filter over the fans the MTBF was, well I never
changed them, but the filter did clog up and needed cleaning perhaps
once a month. Of course I forget until the machine started behaving
oddly.

So, extra fans and extra filters are well worthwhile if you can bear to
modify the front fascia.

I MUST put the cover on the case, been off for years, perhaps next w/e..
