There *are* sometimes differences between CPUs (and other components) rated at different speeds, but often the components are made using exactly the same methods and are simply rated after the event. The ones which run happily at 600 are rated 550, and the ones which will only run happily at 500 are rated 450. However, it can happen that the demand for 450s outstrips the supply of chips which have failed the 600 test. In this case chips which work perfectly at the higher speed will be stamped with the lower one and sold at the lower price. The price a CPU chip is sold at has nothing to do with the cost of manufacturing that individual chip. Chips can only be sold at the higher price if there are buyers there wanting to buy them. If all the buyers want the lower specced chips then that's how they'll be labelled and priced. This is why Intel have been so keen of late to build in mechanisms to ensure you only run chips at the speed you paid for. John -- John Winters. Wallingford, Oxon, England.
