Add your hostname (+localhost for good measure) to
/etc/news/incoming.conf (or wherever the file is).  I have:

peer ME {
  hostname:         localhost
}

peer hopf {
  hostname:     hopf.demon.co.uk        

}

and reload incoming.conf, ie

ctlinnd reload incoming.conf meow
