Please excuse the slightly odd combination of Newsgroups: - I've set followups to news.software.b which seems to be in desparate need of "on-topic" discussion... As mentioned previously I've been looking at actual or potential Year 2000 issues with cnews and the accompanying nntp server. I've gathered my thoughts together at: http://www.dangl.freeserve.co.uk/linux/news/y2k.html There's also a patch for slurp and some infomation about INN. Basically for cnews itself the problem is confined to the handful of articles still encountered with two-digit dates. The NNTP Reference Implementation needs fixes for NEWNEWS and NEWGROUPS. If you're prepared to drop articles with two-digit dates and don't offer news to clients/other machines via NEWNEWS/NEWGROUPS then you can probably ignore all this. I would particularly appreciate informed comment from those in news.software.b about anything I've missed or which could be done better. Despite a fair amount of searching I've been unable to locate any other firm information about Y2K readiness of cnews/NNTP Reference Implementation. I am happy for my patches and commentary to be made available elsewhere, with appropriate acknowledgement.
