People seem to be having different problems with PPP. This is my experience (somewhat condensed!)... Tried using SuSE PPP... Failed. Tried using KPPP... Failed. Tried using ExPPP... Worked first time 'out of the box'! Now if only I can get a newsreader like 'Agent' or understand how mail delivery works... Cheers, Derek. WARNING: Advice From Linux Newbie. Use sparingly.

I tried using EZPPP but the core dumped unable to resolve '_vt.11QMessageBox'. What version of Libqt did you use? The other end is not negotiating ppp. Probably sitting there waiting for
some other input (eg a password.). Log on to your ISP (eg wit minicom)
and see what they expect to receive. Then send them exactly that.
]When I try to use a script I wrote, I usually can't get my modem to
]connect to my provider. I get an error for /usr/sbin/chat ...which is
]a binary and can't be edited.
Sorry, what does this mean? chat is a program to talk to your serial
port with. "errors" usually mena that the "send/expect" sequence is
wrong. It is not a problem with the program.
]Here is what my scripts look like:
]------>8 snip here for script one 8<--------
]#!/bin/bash
] /usr/sbin/pppd /dev/modem 115200 \
] crtscts modem lock \
] ipcp-accept-remote ipcp-accept-local noipdefault \
] lcp-echo-failure 12 lcp-echo-interval 5 \
] defaultroute proxyarp \
] persist holdoff 5 idle 86400 maxconnect 2592000 \
] deflate 15,15 \
] user mikejm remotename wgn \
] connect /usr/local/dialer
]------>8 snip here for script one 8<--------
Why all of these options? How do you mean to use both proxyarp and
defaultroute at the same time. Prune this down to a bare minimum
get rid of everything except defaultroute, adn put in debug so you can
see what pppd thinks it is doing.
/usr/sbin/pppd /dev/modem 115200 \
defaultroute connect /usr/local/dialer
Then you can add stuff if you really really need it.
]------>8 snip here for script two 8<--------
]#!/bin/bash
]number="1-562-485-1000" #wgn
]exec /usr/sbin/chat -V -r /var/log/connect-rates -v \
] TIMEOUT 3 \
] REPORT CARRIER \
] REPORT CONNECT \
] ABORT '\nBUSY\r' \
] ABORT '\nNO ANSWER\r' \
] ABORT '\nNO CARRIER\r' \
] ABORT '\nNO DIALTONE\r' \
] ABORT '\nRINGING\r\n\r\nRINGING\r' \
] '' "ATM0L0W0&D2DT${number}" \
] TIMEOUT 45 'CONN' ''
So, you wait for connect and then drop out of the chat script. I suspect
that your ISP wants something else (like you to log on for example).
]I get a "chat script failed" message when I try to tail -f the
]messages file.
What error? why by the way do you have double quotes around the AT line
rather than single?
