Parallel port at wrong address for NIA ???

I'm trying to install Red Hat on a laptop using FTP over a parallel port
network adaptor.
The problem is that the boot disc dosn't recognise the D-Link DE620 NIA
on the parallel port.
This is probably because the parallel port is at 0278H and the DE620
driver in the kernel is hard coded for a parallel port at 0378H
(according to the Ethernet HOWTO).
Does this mean I'll have to recompile a kernel for the boot disc on
another machine ?
Or is there a simpler method ?

Thanks in advance

Andy

No. Its an old 486 laptop and the lpt i\o address is not alterable, I'd
been round that loop :-)

Can't you tell your bios to change the address of the parallel port?
