Recommendations for ISDN TA for Linux?
#253

We need to fit an ISDN adapter to a machine running RedHat 6.2.
Any recommendations for a good quality adapter please?

probably internal, PCI, but this is not cast in stone.

Will be connected to a standard BT ISDN2e line, not HH, and we
need the option of channel bonding for 128k.

ta.

I don't know what's available at present but Andrews and Arnold
are Linux-savvy. http://www.aa.nu/

I have an ASUS internal ISDN card (without analogue ports) and I can't
fault it. It's about GBP20 from www.redstore.com

I'm on HH but I don't think that makes any difference.

I assume it would also work well on Red Hat...

Business Highway in my case, and the card was more expensive when it
was bought about a year ago, but it works beautifully.

I'd recommend not bothering with a TA and look at using an ISDN router
(eg: a Zyxel) - we use one of the "prestige" series (supports analogue
for dialin capability). It also permits dual-channel bonding.

We had problems with an external TA slung off the back of one box;
moving stuff to the router cured a lot of problems. (nb: the TA *was*
off the back of a billyshitNT4 server; the router was configurable
through a telnet session).

I use a Microtec MT128PCI under linux (SuSE) without problems. This is
supported by the Winbond W6692 driver. I suspect the difficulty that you'll
run into is not the h/w but getting the software set up. This can be done
manually (isdn4linux) but you'll find it easier to use KISDN. You can find
this on the KDE website under the apps section. If you were to change
distros SuSE has excellent ISDN support built in.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the recommendations, people. I've ordered a basic Asus PCI
ISDNcard from Redstore @ ukp16 plus del plus VAT. This has Linux
drivers. Will see how it goes.
