The petition to get Unreal ported to Linux (the full game not just the
server like some people tried to make out) seems to have failed. They
used excuses such as they 'didn't rate portability highly so we used
DirectX as we're lazy'.

problems accessing the site lately)
or email your disapproval to unreal@epicgames.com and tell them why
you'd like to see their games running on Linux.

Or, just cut out the middleman and *make* them run under linux.

Hint: Quake II already runs fairly well under Wine. In both windowed and
DirectX modes, and even partly in GL mode on a Voodoo, thanks to the
newly minted thunking layer to Linux GLIDE. *

A number of other interesting games have been seen at least partly
working of late, including StarCraft, Tomb Raider II, Myst, MDK, and
doubtless several others I've forgotten.

So, want your favourite game to work in Linux? Just come over to comp.
emulators.ms-windows.wine and help to debug it!
It's almost certainly going to be easier than getting companies to
port them themselves, an exercise ofter compared to getting blood
out of a stone...

Cheers,
-Matt.

* obNewbieSquish (someone *always* asks): Of course I know there's a
Linux port of QII. It's just a usefully large example of a game that
works under Wine...
