Recently when I try to play any *.mov, *.mpeg or *.wmv file, I get the
error:
Windows error text: MMSYSTEM296 The file cannot be played on the
specified MCI device. THE file may be corrupt, or not in the
correct format.
The only be page I could fin, referring to that error, says it relates
to *,avi files, which I can play.
I don't recall installing or changing anything which could be related.
Any ideas?

I could be wrong but I don't think windows media player will play .mov, for that you need quicktime from adobe. Although, why .mov are associated with windows media player in the first place I don't know. Thanks, Bruce.
