Monitor/ graphics card oddity

Every now and then, my monitor will decide to throw a wobbly, and look
like this:

        <URL:http://www.pigsonthewing.org.uk/blue.jpg> (12Kb)

(which was taken with a cheapo digital camera, and is a little, ahem,
"soft focus". Sometimes it's green or grey, rather than blue).

I don't run a screen-saver, but if I wait five minutes for my monitor to
go into power-saving mode, then wake it up again, all is well.

I haven't been able to identify a specific cause, but it sometimes
happens when I use SETI Driver to upload results & download new data;
then, it happens the instant I launch the MS_DOS window. It doesn't
happen every time, nor just wen I do that.

Looks like loss of horizontal sync? Faulty monitor, my guess.

Have had similar on old monitor with modern graphics card.
Either reduce definition or, more likely, refresh rate.
[start>settings>control panel>display>settings]

Thanks, I think I'll print that out...

It's a 2year, 11 month- old Dell monitor, attached to a 2year, 11 month-
old Dell PC, with a 2year, 11 month- old graphics card, as supplied by
Del. Fortunately, it's covered by a three- year Dell warrantee ;-)

Thanks, but no thanks.
