TDK Vortex 121032 IDE CDR-W

A while ago, I was advised in these groups to buy a TDK Vortex 121032
IDE CDR-W (which is a re-badged Ricoh 7125A drive).

I was side-tracked by a change of employment, but I'm now about to buy a
drive; and just wanted to make sure that the advice still stood, and
that nothing better (for the money!) has come along in the meantime.

Have purchased the above from Dabs. No problems whatosever. Supplied
software is NTI CD maker, manual takes a bit of reading but very
comprehensive. Use musicmatch juke box for recording from tape or
record player.

Any family member using a creative optical drive would do so over my
dead body, but YMMV.

...and a Lite-ON "CD-RW 32r 12w" drive for GBP 72.85, which, apparently,
comes without an IDE cable. can I buy any old IDE cable, or are there
different types/ quality/ cost? How much should I expect to spend on
one?

You wil only need to buy a cable if there is no spare socket on
your current cable.

And a standard IDE cable will do.

This assumes that you are not trying to put the drive on a
UDMA66/100 controller. If you are there are two comments I would
make: 1) Don't. 2) Make a list of what is connected to where to
see how you need to reorganise things.

    Regards,
         Harry.
