Just wondering if anyone knew if keeping a PC card modem in its slot
whilst working on the laptop (a Sony 747/W98) causes a drain on the
batteries or not. It would be a lot easier to keep the thing in, but I'm
sure I read somewhere that doing that causes a power drain.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Mike

Yes, it can cause a drain on the batteries, as can leaving in peripherals such as CD players when not in use. mike_s wrote in message <8MVziBAYSjq3EwDb@urban75.demon.co.uk>... >Just wondering if anyone knew if keeping a PC card modem in its slot >whilst working on the laptop (a Sony 747/W98) causes a drain on the >batteries or not. Can't really answer directly, but can say that, when my laptop battery is fully charged the 'time remaining' is the same, whether or not the card modem is plugged in, but I'm not sure if the battery monitor would know whether or not the modem was plugged in, and make allowance for it. FWIW, I normally keep the modem card plugged in all the time, and get about five hours of battery life, I think. -- Graeme Hertford, England

PC cards can be powered down when not used, like hard discs and displays to conserve battery life. Investigate the power saving utilities on your laptop to see if PC card power saving is enabled. -- Mike Tomlinson
