There is a magic newsreader thing you don't know about. 

I don't read aus.computers.mac, but presumably any replies to Vaughan's
original question will appear here as well, assuming the respondents
keep the cross-posting. You might notice in my reply, I didn't include
comp.sys - partly because my post wasn't terribly complimentary of the
left-pondian newsgroup style, and partly because the cross-posting issue
is more relevant to our quiet little backwaters.
