What can I say? I could not have received a more comprehensive followup
to my question than that from PeterD - many thanks, and also to the
others who gave their various preferences and helpful opinions.

Just looking at the top five, MacSOUP clearly is way ahead on
popularity. How many of those were your posts though PeterD? :)
Seriously though, I cannot help but think that its popularity probably
indicates some kind of superiority in usability.

However, I think I am correct in saying that MacSOUP supports off-line
newsreading, and so is suitable for dialup users, while MT-NewsWatcher
does/is not. Since I am never going to be using a dialup connection,
maybe that removes for me a major attraction of MacSOUP, and so perhaps
I should lean more towards MT-NewsWatcher? I am of course eliminating
the Microsoft products as potential candidates as a matter of principle!

Netscape 7 could be an option, especially since I am used to 4.79, but I
really don't feel comfortable installing it just for news (since I have
already decided on using Mail and Safari). I am one of those "keep
things simple" users who wants to do more with less. Hence my joy when
I found that Jaguar allows me to save as PDF from *any* application.
Goodbye Acrobat! [Although I might have to use Acrobat anyway since I
might need the security options.]

Cheers,
Vaughan
