So its criteria can't include anything based on the "Received:" lines. Nor can it apply a rule like "bounce any message from a user who sent more than 1000 messages to Demon today". The time involved in keeping my killfile updated is much more than I wish to devote to it, and the time involved in rejecting a message seems much longer than seems reasonable - there must be a misdesigned protocol somewhere, as it sometimes takes a minute or two for the server to send the next message following a bounce. > Demon are absolutely right; they are an ISP for grownups and they furnish > the means to filter mail as you wish. It isn't their job to do it for you; > I wouldn't want them to be involved with rejecting my mail. What I want is to do it myself using their machines, setting up filters that will run on the server. : I want no third parties deciding what mail addressed to this domain : does or does not reach this domain. For Chrissake. *I* want to decide, but I want a third party to do the filtering I decide on. : And if Demon offered any kind of ISP-level filtering, even if the : customer had to request it I don't want to *request* it, I want to *control* it. : and sign the agreement in blood, the whinging of the first customer : to find an important email had been bounced by the filters would be : deafening My present filters sometimes do delete significant emails. SMTP isn't sophisticated enough to do otherwise. I can live with that, I'd rather lose a few real messages than get spam. : remember that while you can not control who sends you mail, you can : control who you receive mail for. Setting a From: that bounces and a : Reply To: that doesn't means we've only recieved two items of UCE in : 10 months Pretty irrelevant if you've been posting from the same address since before Canter & Siegel came along and your address is out there on websites you can't control. Spammers don't just use recent Usenet postings. ========> Email to "jc" at this site; email to "bogus" will bounce. <======== Jack Campin: 11 Third Street, Newtongrange, Midlothian EH22 4PU; 0131 6604760 http://www.purr.demon.co.uk/purrhome.html food intolerance data and recipes, freeware logic fonts for the Macintosh, and Scots traditional music resources
