Hi all,

(I am posting this anonymously, for my own privacy - I hope you'll
understand)

I've been looking around for permanent jobs and especially focussing on CRM,
Business Consultant, Datawarehousing kind of consulting jobs (big 5?). I've
I look on the sites I get the idea that the salary for these kind of roles
range from 40k to 70k for consulting jobs.

I am considering moving to the Netherlands, but can not find an indication
of what the ranges would be there, since the cost of living seems to be
lower.

Any information is appreciated very much.

Thanks,

A jobseeking consultant

Most surprising. The headers of your post seem to suggest you have an
account with xs4all - a Dutch ISP. That suggests you are already here.
Anyway, what currency are you on about? If you are talking UK pounds
(posting to uk.consultants suggests as much), then you may get relatively
close if you are talking about contracting. For a "normal" job with a
"normal" company, you would have a problem getting even the lower limit you
named.

have fun,

Reinier.

Hi,

Depends on your experience level. So here are some examples:
(keep in mind that 10.000 pounds is equal to 36k dutch guilders !!!)
(rates given below are in dutch currency!)

Junior consultant, up to 5 years of experience, 40-75k a year
Consultant, 5 to 8 years of experience, 70-100k a year
Senior consultant, 8 years and more experience, 90k and up

Obviously not as much as you would get in UK but then, the living
standard in NL is much lower so you don't need so much (except if you
wanna live in the topflat in central Amsterdam :-)

Good luck and perhaps we'll meet as colleques.

I would have thought the standard of living in The Netherlands is every
bit as high as in the UK - maybe even higher.

I think he means the cost of living is lower. I'd agree with that.

The only thing to watch is currency movements against the pound if you are
being paid in Euros and have a UK mortgage. It can be a bit annoying to
watch the Euro spiral endlessly downwards as the ECB makes hapless ill timed
statements about "not interfering" with the market.

I disagree that the cost of living in Holland is much less than the UK
(even including London). I have just moved back to London after
spending almost 3 years in Holland. I am renting a small flat in a
nice part of London and my rent is the same as I was paying for a
(bigger) place in Amsterdam. Also, I had parking to pay in Amsterdam
which was another few hundred guilders per month. Food,
entertainment, etc costs the same. If you are eligible for the 30%
re-embursement rule then your income will still be relatively high
even on a lower Dutch salary for the first 5 years. I think if your
motivation is only financial then it is probably not worth it to go
and work in Holland. But I think Holland is a great place to
experience living in for a while and you could really enjoy the
culture, learning the language, etc even on a lower salary.
Good luck,
Stephen
