It's only if the IPS's installation replaces this with their own text that it changes. > -they come with a tweaked registry that puts an add in the title, > however many characters the web page has in the title bar They don't come with a tweaked registry - the registry is a database used by Windows for housekeeping. A registry setting is changed during the install. > -the web page cannot tweak the registry back unless I'm a very naughty > (and technical) boy. No, you can't make registry changes via a web page (unless you write an executable which is downloaded to the client machine and run). > So, is there a way that nice boys can over-ride the title thingy: is > there some nifty bit of script I don't know about, or is it all best > left as it is? The point is that different browsers handle the title bar in different ways - you are assuming they all behave like IE. IE limits the total number of characters in the title bar. Mozilla doesn't, so your trick with spaces works fine for Mozilla. Opera, OTOH, doesn't limit the number of characters, but it puts the browser name "Opera" on the title bar *before* the title. Bottom line is you can't control it, and it doesn't matter anyway. Now how about removing the pesky advertising placed on the monitor case by the manufacturer - why should Sony get free advertising while users are looking at your site?? -- Grunff
