In Australia you do not need Al_Qaeda and all the terrorists.

The terrorists are already inside Queensland Rail.

When you buy a ticket at a rail station for the AIRTRAIN, this ticket
becomes invalid 2 hours later.

Some friend of mine wanted to catch the AIRTRAIN from the Golsdcoast
(Australia)
to the Brisbane Airport.

At 8am in the morning we went to purchse our tickets for the
afternoon.

We were told by the QR station manager if we do that our ticket will
be invalid by 4pm when we intended to catch our train for
International flght out side of Brisbane.

Queensland Rail ingenieur for the Brisbane Airtrain a bunch of $

Do not bother to travel by Brisbane City train, still not in the 21
century.

If you want to dislike Australia, travel by Queensland Rail

Similar restrictions occur for local tickets in parts of Europe. You can
travel /change trains but must complete your journey within xx hours of
buying your ticket.

More sensible places time it from validation, rather than sale.

In Spain a pretty-much empty ticket office said they couldn't sell me a
ticket in the evening for travel the next morning, instead I'd have to
come back just before departure time and join the queue. They seemed to
think the idea of buying ahead to take advantage of the lack of queue
was a really bizarre thing to do.

Queensland Rail is not responsible for ticketing on suburban trains. Fares
and ticket conditions are set by Translink - QR just run the trains.

Also, Airtrain is a private operation and is not QR or Translink - they set
their own fares and conditions.

So you should complain to Translink
(http://www.translink.com.au/qt/TransLin.nsf/index/contactus) and Airtrain
(http://www.airtrain.com.au/contactus.php).

George sounds similar to what we had in NSW. if your purchased an off
peak ticket you had to travel on thetrain leaving 9am and you had to
be on the retun journey by the 4 pm train.

Do they still have them in Sydney?

I live in Regional NSW

Not quite. Off peak return tickets are valid from 09:00 until 04:00 the
next morning.

I'm currently sitting on a tram in Manchester. My ticket expires 90
minutes after issue from the machine.
