Hi folks.
I'm looking for all possible 4-Carbon alcohols. Butan-1-ol and butan-2-ol
are obvious, and then there's tert-butanol or 2-methyl-2-propanol, (CH3)3
COH:
H3
C
|
H3C-C-CH3
|
O
H
Theoretically one can imagine propan-2-methanol, which looks like
H
O
|
HCH
|
H3C-C-CH3
H
but instinct tells me the synthesis of this is impossible, as I cannot
remember a way to get a methyl group onto C2 of propanol. Bear in mind
that my last organic course was 7 or 8 years ago . . .
Thanks for any input,
Richard
