The section on quantum theory in the free physics text on

                www.motionmountain.org

has been expanded.
Many figures have been added, many redone, and the readability of the full
text has been increased.
The chapter on classical gravitation has been made more accessible.

The whole physics text is written for students and anybody interested in physics
and now contains over 760 pages. There are structured introductions to all fields
of physics, from mechanics, relativity, electrodynamics, quantum theory up
to high energy physics and modern unification attempts. Every page is as
surprising and challenging as possible, so that opening the text at random is
always a worthwhile experience, both for students and for physics professionals.

The text touches topics such as claims about speeds higher than that of
light, the appearance of wheels in nature, the disasters that our planet
might encounter in the future, the list of open questions in physics, the
issues posed by the night sky, the physics of sex, strange coincidences in
nature, the frequency of gravity waves, the way to connect water pipes to a
turning wheel, Hilbert's sixth problem, the way David Copperfield flies,
methods for levitation, the relation between angels and quantum
theory, the issue of the wavefunction of the universe, the physics of
pleasure, and many others.

Several hundred interesting physics quizzes are part of the text.
Extensive references to modern research results and hundreds of web sites
are also given.

I thank all the readers who have sent corrections and suggestions
for improvement.

Enjoy!
