Yesterday's Daily Mail (for those of you outside the UK that is a British
newspaper) had a short article entitled "I caught my dream girl by using
a Net". It describes how a man in Bristol saw the girl of his dreams on
the dance floor but was too shy to ask her out. However, a few days later,
to her surprise, she received an e-mail message from him inviting her out
for a drink.

The man had found out her name and where she worked and then, according to
the Daily Mail, "used the Internet members directory" to find her e-mail
address. Everything worked out and the couple are getting engaged today
on Valentine's Day.

The reference to "the Internet members directory" intrigued me. There is
no single reliable way of finding e-mail addresses but there are various
directories of addresses and in addition quite a range of other methods
that can be used. I have no idea what method the Bristol man used but I
have put a page on the Web on the subject of "Finding E-Mail Addresses of
Individuals." It is at URL

       http://www.ex.ac.uk/~RDavies/lib/address.html

Although it is quite extensive I am sure that there must be directories or
methods that I have missed. If you know of any good ones that I have not
included (especially but not only if they are good for romantic purposes!)
I would be grateful for the information.
