This is the most ridiculous thing I've heard of in several days (there are lots
of ridiculous things being said in DC these days). Let's keep in mind:

1) This Internet was set up by, and is used extensively by, the US Government
to transfer information between agencies and to the public.

2) The Internet is huge. There are sites in practically every nation on
Earth. Even AOL and CompuServe can't afford to spend the money on the staff
and techonolgy it would take to censor what their subscribers get through it.

3) Exon is a blowhard. He knows damn well he can't really do anything to
prevent the Net from being the anarchy that it is. He is simply making
headlines for his hometown papers (EXON SPEAKS OUT AGAINST KIDDIE PORN) so that
everyone will love him and re-elect him. He is the archetypal job-seeker who
wants to spend the rest of his career in Washington spewing gas instead of
working for a living.

I really don't think there is anything to worry about -- he's just poor comedy.
