Hi All: I am in a need of advice from a person knowledgeable in area beer scene, any response (preferably by replying via e-mail) would be appreciated. Two friends of mine are coming to visit Baltimore shortly, and plan to do some bar hopping. What are good beer/with strip joints in Baltimore, I mean nice and safe, preferably within a walking distance to Inner Harbor? (I cannot provide a competent answer myself, being confined to suburban family lifestyle during my stay here). Many thankx for consideration, Victor.

From walking distance from the Inner Harbor, your choices are limited. The Block (Baltimore St between President and St. Paul approx.) is really your only option. The bars there are not full-topless due to restrictive city ordinances. I haven't been down there in quite a while, but the only place I know is good is the Flamingo Lounge, which does have strippers working most nights.. the good part is not the strippers, but the live local bands that play there some weekend nights. None of these places are known for their beer selection, Budweiser in cans is your best bet.. and the dancers on the block are not the best talent (most are.. well, ugly) There are some other bars downtown (w/dancers) but they require travels through some dangerous neighborhoods. There is a topless place on Broadway in Upper Fells Point not too far from the Harbor, but you either need to walk through Little Italy or call a cab.. it is 10+ blocks and passes close to the projects. If you can get to Towson, there is Kaos on East Joppa; Nightshift is all-nude (on Ponca St? in East Baltimore/Dundalk) and is BYOB; The Wagon Wheel has a very ..umm.. nice reputation, but I haven't been there myself, and don't know where it is. There are a number of strip joints on Pulaski Highway and points east of the city, you'll spend maybe $20 on cab fare round-trip. For all-around beer drinking and general rowdiness downtown, I would suggest Fells Point. If the weather stays clear and not-too-cold, you can catch the Water Taxi from the Inner Harbor.. there are a lot of beer-bars/pubs there including the Wharf Rat, Bertha's, and the Cat's Eye. And the strip club in only 4 blocks north of the water (typical clip joint, no cover, expensive beers, $20 "Dancer Drinks", but the women are OK and fairly young, and the crowd is surprisingly young).
