G'day All,
 
 
I know this is too broad a question so I'll be happy with "meta-pointers"
to sources of info. such as good travel books, tourist info. office, WWW
page, FAQs, etc. But if you have local knowledge, I'll just describe myself
so you can suggest "must-see/do" places/activities that could be of
interest to me.
 
I'm a 24 yr old male Australian PhD student in Computer Engineering. I'm
ethnically Chinese but speak only a little "Teo Chiew". I'll be there in
2 weeks for 2 weeks and will also go to Malaysia.
 
Besides doing standard "touristy" things, I'd like to "get a feel" for
Singapore's push to be a high-tech nation. Some specific questions: Are
there good/cheap places to shop for computer hardware/software? Is there
public access to the internet such as (user pay) "cyber-cafes" or
university libraries/computer labs? Are there any events or places to visit,
e.g. a uni. campus, where I could mix with people of similar interest?
 
Before you flame me, I'm not a _complete_ nerd so feel free to suggest good
places to go out, eat out, have a drink, socialise, etc. Any advice is
welcome, thanks in advance.
