NEW YORK, Jan. 5 --- American films dominated the world market once again, with John Woo's "Mission Impossible 2," starring Tom Cruise and Thandie Newton, finishing the year at the top of the box office with over half a billion US dollars worldwide. Coming in a distant second was Ridley Scott's sword-and-sandal epic "Gladiator" with just under 450 million. Non-American films that did well last year were the UK's "Chicken Run" and Japan's "Pokemon 2," each bringing in over 100 million worldwide. Local films that did well on the world stage included France's "Taxi 2," UK's "Billy Elliot," Mexico's "Amores Perros," Denmark's "Dancer In The Dark," and HK's "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon."
