The person posting this advertisement is named James CHUBAK...he is selling EASY FULFILLMENT licenses of Microsoft Office Pro 97 (and has plainly stated so in these past postings) http://www.dejanews.com/dnquery.xp?QRY=fulfillment&DBS=1&ST=PS&defaultOp=AND&LNG =ALL&format=terse&showsort=score&maxhits=100&subjects=&groups=&authors=mav5*&fro mdate=&todate= CHUBAK (who removed the EASY FULFILLMENT) after he was advised that sales of EASY FULFILLMENT product is considered by Microsoft as software piracy and that Microsoft civilly and criminally prosecutes both individuals AND companies every day for sellingn what this guy is selling. http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/whatis/4piracies.htm CHUBAK, having spammed the net since last year advertising this crap...is now under investigation by Microsoft's Legal and Corporate Affairs Department as was another guy you've seen postings from for the same product - GARY BROOKS of Troy, NY. Brooks as you'll remember told all of USENET that the software he was offering "was not pirated", however on August 6 of 1998, the Troy, New York Police Department raided his federally-subsidized apartment building and confiscated over 100 copies of his "legal" software, detailed in this Albany Times-Union article: Section: CAPITAL REGION Page: B4 Tuesday, August 18, 1998 MAN CHARGED WITH SELLING BOOTLEG MICROSOFT SOFTWARE MIKE FRICANO Staff writer Troy - A city resident has been charged with selling bootleg copies of computer software. Gary Brooks, 43, of 41 114th St., allegedly advertised and sold illegally copied Microsoft products on the Internet, police said. When they searched his home they found more than 100 copies of Microsoft Office 97, which retails for between $300-$400 but which Brooks sold for $35, said Troy Police Capt. Jack Mahar. Brooks was charged Aug. 11 with second-degree trademark counterfeiting, unlawful duplication of computer-related materials and criminal possession of computer-related materials, police said. Police said they are trying to determine whether Brooks was part of a larger network of computer software piraters. Troy police became involved in the case after receiving a call from a New York City detective agency, hired by Microsoft to monitor software bootleggers, Mahar said. A search warrant was then obtained and Brooks was arrested, Mahar said. The penalty for a conviction on each charge is 1 to 3 years imprisonment. Brooks remains free pending further legal action, police said. Like Brooks, CHUBAK'S sales transactions are being monitored. If you'll take a look at Microsoft's newly-revised Piracy page, you'll see exactly what risks are involved in buying this kind of software. http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/whatis/3risks.htm -----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your Own
