Hello folks Remember the hailstorm in Boulder on October 1st? I thought I had only minor damage to my car, but I took it in to get an estimate, and NOW I have a problem. There are small dents all over the car, the body shop (Boulder Bump) guy said he will have to replace the hood, and work on just about each of the rest of the panels. This means basically the whole car will be repainted. Total cost: approx $3000. There is another option, use the dent doctor. The insurance guy recommended it, so I checked out "Precision Dent" in Broomfield. The guy said he could fix all the dents, no problem. This option is approx $1800. The cost is really not a problem, my question is what is the right thing to do. The car is 92 Camry, so the paint job is pretty good (I think). If I use the dent doctor, the original paint will be retained. On the other hand, if use a body shop, I will get an almost totally new paint job. My car dealer's service shop said a new paint job is preferable to having the dents doctored. SO, the questions are: 1. Does anyone have experience with Precision Dent (or other dent doctors)? 1.5 Does anyone have experience with Body shops in Boulder? The ones I was considering were: Boudler Bump Shop, CarWorks. 2. Between having the car painted or using the dent doctor, is one preferred over the other? Why? 3. Is the new paint job comparable quality to the factory paint? 4. Is it worth it to try to keep the factory paint? I figure lots of people have experience from the recent (or in the past) hailstorms. Could you please share it with me? I can summarize the replies. Thanks, Madhav mapte@advtech.uswest.com

BEfor any FLAMES start, This is my own followup to my last post. I forgot to mention that I haven't been reading the groups for a long while, so if a discussion of hail damage and how to fix it has happened, PLEASE accept my apologies. If someone has saved the discussion, could you please email it to me? Cheers, Madhav mapte@advtech.uswest.com

Here in Maryland there is a similar company called DentWorks. I had
my a dent (no paint damage) removed back in August. The area is almost
like new. The problem with my car (hit & run, which i won't get into)
was that the damage was actually a crease that extended into one of the
angled contors of the body. Otherwise the dent removal would have been
completely eliminated. I've seen cars with dings (not unlike those caused
by hail) where it is impossible to detect where the damage was done.
