Abstract
One possibility for increasing available computational power
at resonable cost is to construct multiprocessors out of the
new generation of powerful microprocessors. This presenta-
tion describes a multiprocessor version of the Tunis opera-
tion system that is designed to run on several tightly-
coupled microprocessors. In this system each processor has
its own copy of the operating system in local memory which
it may concurrently execute. Global memory is used only to
hold system wide data such as open file tables. The result-
ing reduction in required interprocessor bandwidth allows
the system to maintain throughput without necessitating on-
board caches or specialized busses.
