calling all excel gurus...
The answers to the following questions must be achievable in Excel 2.2 (Mac)
1.
Is it possible to have superscript and subscript characters in Excel?
This is just as the heading of a column not in any calculated fields.
Have tried formatting it in Word and copy/paste but that didn't work.
2. Is it possible to set a default font for Excel so that all worksheets
use it
- to avoid setting it for each new worksheet?
3. A cell contains a particular number which is the result of a formula.
Is it possible to insert the ยท symbol (option w) next to the answer?
It seems that you can either have the ยท symbol or the calculated answer
but not both?
Thanks in advance
Jane

I haven't been able to find a way to do this even on Excel 3.0. >2. Is it possible to set a default font for Excel so that all worksheets > use it > - to avoid setting it for each new worksheet? I'm not sure about Excel 2.2, but on 3.0 the way to do this is to redefine the "Normal" Style (which should be Geneva 10, if it hasn't been already redefined). Go to the Format menu, select Style..., select "Normal", then Change: Font... and you are presented all the fonts you have on the system. From here on it should be easy. >3. I'm not sure what you mean by \267 symbol (on my reader, rn, this was first interpreted as just a 7; on Geneva 10, option w yields a capital Greek sigma, often used for a summation symbol---perhaps this is what you mean). Again I'm not certain what can be done with 2.2 but on Excel 3.0 it's very easy. Anyway, if you can type it from the keyboard, I think you can put it into the cell. The way to do this is with a customized "Number" format. Go to the Format menu, select Number, then create your own. For example: "<option w>"0.00 where the quotation marks are included but <option w> represents your keystrokes for your special character; 0.00 will then print the value of that cell with 2 digits after the decimal place---all this will print the value of the cell after your special character. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Charles Corbato Internet: corbato.1@osu.edu or | | Ohio State Univ, Columbus, OH ccorbato@magnus.acs.ohio-state.edu | +----------------------------------------------------------------------+
