Topic: A New Parametrization for Linear Compartmental Models
Speaker: Duncan Murdoch, Dept. of Statistics and Actuarial Science,
         University of Waterloo
Date: Thursday, November 2, 1989 4:00 - 5:00
Place: Room 1085, Sidney Smith Building, 100 St. George Street, U of T
Abstract:
The usual "black-box" parametrization of linear compartmental models
as a sum of exponential terms implicitly assumes that the eigenvalues
of the transition matrix are real and distinct. A new parametrization is
proposed which is shown to extend the usual model to include complex
eigenvalues (damped oscillations) and double eigenvalues (resonances).
