Temporary throughput problem in San Francisco bay area

Due to a Sprint fiber cut in Chicago, UUNET's T1 line between San Jose
and Washington DC was down on Tuesday from 4:30 pm to 9:30 pm EST.

IP traffic for the SF bay area was rerouted over our 512 K line between
San Jose and Portland, our 512 K frame relay line between Portland and
Boston, and our T1 line between Boston and Washington DC. Traffic over
this route would be significantly slower than normal due to the higher
latency of a 512 K frame relay line.

UUCP connections over UUNET's modems in San Jose, Palo Alto, or
Berkeley would have show decreased throughput while the rerouting was
in effect. Some subscribers may have had problems making UUCP
connections around the time the fiber was cut.
