I think there are a couple of plans afoot, from what I remember reading
in the local papers recently.

The first is to begin mixing Grand River water with that coming from the
Mannheim wellfield, a series of artesian wells outside Mannheim which has
supplied drinking water for the area for some time (Mannheim is just
west of the bottom end of Kitchener... follow Ottawa Street westward
from Fisher-Hallman and you'll get there).

The second is an experiment; using the Grand River water to recharge
the Mannheim wells by pumping the water into the ground.  In that way
the Grand water gets filtered by the earth, and we get a better and
more consistent supply of drinkable water.

The water supply has been scant indeed the past couple of summers...
the wells just can't supply the area's demand anymore.  Thus the two
schemes to increase the water supply without completely killing the
quality of water (or the residents!).
