Kitchener and Waterloo are indeed now recieving water from the Grand River,
as well as the old wells. The water is entering the network in Mannheim.

I believe that the Cambridge and Kitchener-Waterloo-Elmira networks are
independant. I am also not aware of any of the wells being artesian.
Cambridge does thought receive most, (if not all) of their water from
wells.

Until the new Mannheim treatment facility was opened a few months ago
Kitchener-Waterloo was receiving all of it water from wells. However
some of these wells are infiltration wells, located in or near the
river bed of the Grand River.

The dis-use of the Lester St. Reservoir should have no affect on
water-quality taste. The taste and quality of the local
groundwater is mostly a function of the minerals in the ground-water.
The taste and odour is particularly noticeable in water that has
been obtained from near or in the bedrock (which contains a lot of sulphur).

The use of Grand River water should greatly improve the taste and quality
for the people who will actually receive it (though I doubt that much
of it will get as far as Waterloo!). Whatsmore, unlike the well water,
the Grand River water undergoes water treatment.
