This whole thread is amazing. OP asked a perfectly reasonable question about
how network feeds are scheduled, and several people siezed on it as an
excuse to slam TV in general, or certain shows in particular, or proudly
proclaim how they 'never watch' . (Methinks they doth protest too much...)

To get back to OPs original question- last article I saw on the CBS feed was
that he does the evening news twice, at 6 pm and again at 6:30 pm. Only
changes for the second feed are corrections, fresh tape, or breaking news. I
would assume west coast gets a delay of the later feed, with perhaps some
fresh tape inserts or live feed for very breaking news.

And I do not understand all the posters about the 10 or 11 pm 'network'
news. I've traveled all over US and never seen a non-cable 'network' late
newscast. I have heard that for some of the 3-4 'flagship' stations each
network owns, (ie, wcbs, wnbc, wabc, and their k-prefix west coast sisters)
that some network second-stringers may also pull local news duty, but it
isn't a network feed. But since I don't live in a flagship market, I can't
verify that, and I haven't memorized the ever changing staff rosters of the
network reporters.

And a last comment to those with their noses too high up to see the screen-
yes, it is a vast (or half-vast) wasteland, but for a lot of us, especially
the ones that live alone, it does provide the pathetic illusion of social
contact and human company. Others, like me, use it as a fireplace, to add
some visual interest and background noise while we waste time on the real
time-sucker, this 2-way TV we call the internet, or while reading the
newspaper (talk about dumbed-down pablum)/eating dinner, or doing actual
useful chores. There are only a few shows each week I care about enough to
stop doing other stuff and actually pay attention.

rant mode off.
