I'm new to the DC area, and have been very distressed over the lack of
local geek communities. Yes, there are a few organizations, but the
list is small, and each organization appears to be fairly inclusive.

I'm interested in putting together a DC Metro geek community website,
and while I can:

Host the domain and web site
Create the community phpBB Message Board
Admin said Message Board and web site

On the other hand, I would need assistance in:

Marketing the site in local areas
Spreading the word to local people
Creating a base community to further the growth of the web site
Web site design (I'm heartily sick of doing website design)

I realize this would be a bit of a project. I realize it will not
happen overnight. But I come from a place in the US where the geek
community is living large, albit a bit poorer at the moment. It's been
a bit of a shock to discover that the local geek community, which is
pretty large, has such a small selection of organized local
networking, social and lifestyle resources.

Maybe the DC Metro geek community is sociologicaly different then that
of our Silicon Valley peers, but that doesn't mean a local community
site would not be useful.

I would appreciate anyone giving me a lead to a person, people or
group who would be interested in discussing this project with me.

I can be reached via the happy-to-receive-spam (heh) address that was
used to post this message.

Thank you in advance.
