Water once a week putting down 3/4" to 1" of water. I use an aluminum pie plate under the sprinkler to measure. If you water every day for just a few minutes you end up with very shallow rooted grass which is even more drought prone. Don't water during the heat of the day (after 10 before 4) since most of the water will be lost to evaporation. Some experts say you shouldn't water at night since it may lead to fungus growth, but obviously God doesn't pay any attention to that (judging by the t-storms we had go through here last night :^) ) so I like to water at night (after 8 PM). Using these rules I end up watering about 5 times a season and have a pretty reasonable looking lawn. David Kimberly Caruso wrote: > I live in Northern Virginia near DC.
