Well, fwiw, my answering machine bit the dust; so, while I was replacing it, I bought a zapper. (From Radio Shack, called Tele-Zapper.) Yesterday was the first day in memory, in twenty years' exile to the fleshpots of Babylon on Potomac, that I never got a single phone spam call. Maybe that's dumb luck, but I'm going to keep it plugged into the line till I get good reason not to. I may make one change. It was only after I had it plugged in that I read the part in the instructions saying you can plug it into any jack on the line -- a spare one out of the way, if you have one -- and not have to have it on your furniture near a phone.
